Gabi Cilmi's Latest Single Is...

"Defender". Hmmmm. I can't decide if this is an inspired decision or the final nail in rotting coffin that is Gabriella's career. While there are far better songs on the diva's criminally underrated sophomore album ("Love Me Cos You Want To", "What If You Knew", "Robots", "Boys" and "Superhot" all spring to mind), this is an obvious attempt at re-connecting with the millions of housewives that bought "Lessons To Be Learned". If you need more convincing that this is an exercise in damage control, the ballad is being released as a double A-side with a cover of Kiki Dee's "Magic Carpet Ride" - which should appeal to grandmothers everywhere! It reeks of desperation but I hope it works. Unlike most of her contemporaries, Gabi has a good voice and "Defender" is actually a rather lovely despite the hateful comments I made in my album review. Whoops! The song is completely overwrought but the Hallmark lyrics still connect with my inner sap and she looks totally hot in the ridiculous video (below). I love it when Gabriella randomly cuts off her hair and gives herself a henna tattoo! Anyway, fingers crossed for some trashy remixes to liven things up. "Defender" is released in the UK on the 22nd of August. Take pity on the poor bitch and buy it.

Adore this album! It has been a constant listen for me over the year. I really had to grow with alot of these songs for them to click with me.

Hearts Don't Lie was a poor second single choice. They should have gone with "Superhot" for second single, and "Glue" as third single.

It's such a shame she has suffered quite a bit of backlash with this album. It's been a giant flop on all levels, and I'm sure the record company is fast thinking of ways of putting together the pieces for the next album.

Gabriella is too underated. She has a very good voice and I think that if her label released "What If You Knew", it would be a hit.

Bad choice, 'Love me cos you want to' could be her salvation!!

This girl is so so underrated, "Hearts Don't Lie" should of been a follow-up #1 smash to "On a mission" but yeah we live in a fucked up world.
3rd single should of been "Love me cos you want to", another #1 imo!:)

Love this album but yeah Love Me Cos You Want To should have definitely been third single. In fact i'm ignoring this and pretending it is :) Hurrah, etc. So glad you back!!

"Love Me Cos You Want To" is also my favourite song on the album but it might be a bit too soft and pretty to be a single. I think "Boys" or "What If You Knew" would have been better choices. Who knows - "Defender" might be a smash. But I doubt it.

Just uncovered Ten's Australian chart run in the Top 100 - and it ain't pretty!

It's lucky to have sold over 10,000 copies, considering it sold 3,475 copies in its first two weeks (sale figures courtesy of auspOp).

"Superhot" is still my song of choice from this album, but my opinion of "Hearts Don't Lie" skyrocketed in the past few weeks--after it came out as a single. Sigh.
