Mi Corazón Gitano

Mi destino es andar,
Mis recuerdos son una estela en el mar

Let's face it, Shakira's "She Wolf" is already dead and buried outside of the Spanish speaking world. And I blame Sony. "Give It To Me" was an abomination and the company clearly spent more money on Kelly Clarkson's catering budget than Shakira's last couple of videos. The only thing that could revive the project now is rush releasing "Men In This Town" but even that hauntingly beautiful electronic masterpiece would have trouble saving this sinking ship. It's devestating because the album is extraordinary and deserves to be huge. Take single number four. "Gypsy" grabs you by the heartstrings and showcases the diva's stunning versatility. Who else could go from whoring it up in a glittery vagina to strumming a gentle folk song with such ease and authenticity? This is vintage Shakira. The quirky lyrics ooze a sunny melancholy, while the organic production owes more to 1969 than 2009 (when it was recorded). I love every second of it. I just happen to love the Spanish version more. Shakira sounds more natural in her native tongue and the translation is lovely. I wish I could speak the language well enough to get all the nuances but what I can understand is pure poetry. "Gitana" is being tacked onto the South American re-release of "She Wolf" as a bonus track but will hopefully appear on iTunes eventually. If not you might have to steal it get a little creative. The video (below) is well worth checking out. A lot has been made of Rafael Nadal's constant state of undress but I can't take my eyes of Shakira. She is the sexiest woman alive. After La Toya.

Pure shit and singles like this and the two that followed She Wolf keep proving it. Gypsy is really low even in Shakira standards.

Quite liking the freemasons remix of Gypsy, loving men in this town. not so thrilled about the other singles choices... i still occasionally try and get as bendy as she does but it never works :/

I love this video and the song, one of the best song from the cd.

I think "She Wolf" is her second best album. It's just been woefully mismanaged. If you forget that "Give It To Me" ever happened and trim away a few of the Neptunes produced tracks, it's stunning.

Jafet speaks the truth! "Gypsy" is a definite highlight. However, I think the Freemasons mix is appalling. Seriously, who wants a country-lite version of a folk song?

And David is just jealous because South Americans do it better!

Shaki's She Wolf is amazing. I loved the song She Wolf and was even more impressed by Did It Again. Some other faves: Spy, Mon Amour, and Men in this Town. But... they really screwed up the album by delaying it and then including the shiteous Give it up to me.

I didn't realize Shakira was flopping with this one. But I agree with Daniel. The delay and horribly generic and crap second single in the US really put the nail in the coffin. Where's Wyclef when you need him to save Shakira, Shakira.

Anon - Shakira isn't Mexican, you douche!

Sexbox - I think they should just push "Men In This Town". If that doesn't work given the current electro-pop crazy, nothing will. It's a shame because Shaki is so far above the rest of the bitches selling millions...

I do love me some Gypsy. I think whats killed her career tho is her muppet voice. I'm sorry it's my opinion but the bitch does sound very muppet when i hear her sing. She should have let Amanda Ghost write all the material on this. Also when this came out in the states she did an awful lipsync of "she wolf" on america's got talent. It was rank and she also threw in some yoga in her performance.
