Kylie Rocks The USA!

I can't think of a better way to celebrate my 300th post than writing a quick review of Kylie's first American performance in almost 5 years. Last night over 20 million viewers tuned in to watch Dancing With The Stars and were treated to a double dose of Kylie. Ms Minogue kicked off the show with "All I See" before returning to give "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" yet another spin. Despite some severe audio problems, I vastly preferred "All I See". The music was too quiet and someone clearly fucked up with the backing vocals (ie. you couldn't hear them at all - which is a problem when they constitute half the song!) but Kylie looked stunning in her red sequined gown and drag queens across America will be scurrying to get their hands on Kylie's glorious hooker wig! I loved the way she moved around the stage and interacted with the dancers. Kylie looked like she was having a great time and the audience were in a Minogue induced frenzy! Check out "All I See" below.

Kylie returned at the end of the program to perform "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" and her vocals were pitch perfect. The same, however, can not be said for her fagtacular costume change:

Dear Kylie, the cop from the Village People called and he wants his uniform back! It's not Min's finest fashion moment but her face looks amazing and I kind of love the fact that Kylie has the nerve to appear on US television wearing Dannii's lesbian pride outfit from 1997. Represent! If I'm honest, I could do without hearing "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" ever again but Kylie gets this rendition just right (below). It would have been nice to hear another song from "X" but I believe she was contractually obliged to dust off an old hit. I have no idea what American audiences made of our holy icon and I couldn't care less. The US will probably never fully appreciate the Kylie phenomenon and that's ok. I just can't wait for the Aussie Queen of pop to drag her trunk of trannytastic gowns back home and deliver another dose of Minogue magic! "X" was released in America yesterday - top 150 here we come!

Yeah, I wasn't sold on the sound of "All I See" here at all (love the song in general, though; it's just that, as you pointed out, there were problems here), but thought that red dress looked fantastic on her. Plus, Kylie on American TV = a definite yay! Now if only we could hear Kylie on American radio...

Two fabulous performances (I quite enjoyed All I See surprisingly enough is is a lot more pleasant than I have thought for the past few months) and that bondage outfit was brilliant! It even had chains! Though it did look a bit like it was thrown together from the surviving pieces of the LGTI Tour wardrobe. With Chains!

Unfortunately, I can't see these stunning performances having much impact on the US release of X - but that it their loss.

Nice 300th post. A milestone for both you (300 posts) and Kylie (performing in the US :-P) I'm sure. I barely remember any promotion happening here for Body Language and I can see the same thing happening with X as well. It was good seeing her on TV last night though even if she did sing CGYOOMH as opposed to something else from X or another fantastic song that wasn't overplayed on the radio here. You said (in your march 17th post) that she was basically going to do some promo here for about 2 days? What will the rest of this media blitz look like?

i love this blog but why do you always put down american's you must hate us or something over her ozzie's are seen as some of the nicest people
but your crushing that theory on a daily bases if all australian gay men are like this than no thanks.and also its not entirely our fault kylie is not a huge star here you know it wouldn't kill her to put in more than 48 hours every 5 years here you know.

Hi PPG! I think the problem with something as delicate as "All I See" is the fact that it has so much layering in the production and it just doesn't translate well live - particularly with the sound at half volume and no backing vocals! I still loved it though, Kylie is just adorable.

Hi Jay - I don't think that fabulous performance will help X either. I'm sure Kylie's camp theatrics left most of America scratching their head. At least she looks like she's having fun! I'm just devestated Dannii didn't storm the stage and steal Kylie's microphone!

Hi Acer! Thank you for the compliment and your comments in the Dannii post. I think Kylie was originally planning a 48 hour trip but I think it has been extended for at least another day (LOL!). She also has appearances on Ellen and the Late Late Show lined up. I believe she will sing "All I See" on both. It will be really interesting to see if they fix the sound problem up!

Dear Anon - I'm not sure how you work out that I hate America! I just think Kylie is wasting her time promoting over there at this stage of her career. Surely it would make more sense to concentrate on the markets where she is taken seriously than spend energy on a market where she isn't even played on the radio.

congrats on 300 posts :) how exciting. I was so amused at the fact that in England it was reported on the news that Kylie had wowed America with her promotional blitz by "appearing on all the top talk shows" and "the number one programme in america". Gotta love the accuracy of the British media :)

I am deeply saddened that you don't like Kylie's bondage outfit for ...Head. You could almost imagine Kylie bringing out a 20" dildo (borrowed from Dannii of course, Kylie's too modest to go over 10")!
Speaking of All I See, what's your opinion of the extended mix of All I See? I love it.

LOL at Kylie's 48 hour "promotional blitz"! At least she stuck it out for a whole fortnight with "Body Language". And Paul, I'm sure you'll be happy to learn that Kylie will now be appearing on American Idol - to deliver a video message!

Kylie's box is way too out of practice to take 10"! I actually think the bondage outfit is hilarious and I adore the fright wig. Oh and I love the extended mix of "All I See"!! It's one of the best remixes to emerge from this entire era.

Congrats on 300 posts!! I agree that Kylie is wasting her time here in states but please let us borrow her for a couple of days before M&M (mariah and Madonna) clog up our TV's with endless promotion for their albums.

Her appearance on the Late Late Show aired last night. She sang "All I See." Same dancers/choreography as "Dancing With The Stars."

She had a great rapport with the host & the interview was fun.

Her "Ellen" appearance airs Monday...

Another US promo clip for X.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLqFxx77f1w

It is from the 4/2 episode of The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Surprisingly, they show part of the Wow video before she walks out for her interview as well. As for the interview itself it was great and pretty damn funny. Craig Ferguson is probably my personal favorite of the late night talk show hosts here in the US. The performance was still a bit off sounding but that could be because of the quality of the recording and not necessarily the way it was aired. I missed it when it first aired and only just saw the youtube clip.

As for Kylie, she looked fantastic and I hope her upcoming tour extends to at least some of the US as well as the rest of the world.

I saw a youtube clip of her performance on the Late Late Show and I think it was gorgeous! Kylie looked sublime and the audio problems were sorted out. I particularly loved the choreography. I really hope she keeps those dancers for the tour!

Well millions of americans watch dancing with the washed up. So it was a good choice for Kylie. I love this album. I hope Kylie does well here but i doubt it. Mim's might help her here though cuz all i ever hear on american radio is rap or rock. We need good dance pop like Kylie. Maybe she and Robyn will arrive and take over with hit after hit. I can dream!Where's Dannii on our version of dancing with the stars? Prays she will emerge from her hiatus and perform there. lol Love ya Mike and congrats on the big 300! Your blog remains the best out there. Total entertainment.

This would have been the perfect opportunity for Kylie to appear on Oprah! She has the whole cancer battle spin to work with... That would have been awesome promotion for X. American Idol would have been icing on the cake as well.
